The content standards presented in this chapter outline what students should know, understand, and be able to do in natural science. As part of our ongoing improvement efforts, we conduct a systematic peer review process at our regional science centers and national Office of Science and Technology to improve integration, identify best practices, and share successes and challenges within our science enterprise.

Less formally, the word science often describes any systematic field of study or the knowledge gained from it. The Office of Polar Programs (OPP) strongly encourages STC proposals related to all aspects of polar research supported by the Foundation. Most of the technical knowledge used in the designing and development of tools and techniques is actually an outcome of ‘engineering science’.
