After years of working exclusively in New Orleans, KIPP, the prominent charter school network, was approved Monday to expand upriver to start three schools in Baton Rouge. The initiative awards American teachers with a $10,000 grant in recognition of their extraordinary impact. The Agency of Education told legislators that it needs an additional $7 million to cover costs related to placing students in schools outside of their parents’ home districts.
