The quality of education being delivered varies across private and public schools. Look through a newspaper or magazine—or one of the education-focused news websites that have sprung up in recent years—and you’ll see plenty of stories about schools: teacher strikes, racial and socioeconomic disparities and segregation, charter schools, the role of technology, and (alas) school shootings.

Informal education is when you are not studying in a school and do not use any particular learning method. This shows the important role of domestic security that the Christian education provides for the society that promulgates Christianity in schools. The Texas House has passed a bill that will include a civics test in the graduation requirements for public high school students.

Plus, Boise State University student athletes will help mentor elementary school students during STEM Day on the Blue this Friday. The Texas House on Wednesday approved a provision pitched by Democrats that would require school districts to give all school employees pay raises using some of the extra money districts receive from a comprehensive school finance bill.

The measure, which now goes to the full Senate, doesn’t include librarians, counselors, nurses and school support staff, and TSTA will continue working to include a pay raise for them as well. The House, under Bonnen’s predecessor, Joe Straus, passed legislation in 2017 to add as much as $1.8 billion to the public education budget, but it was rejected by the Patrick-led Senate.

It has created a lot of opportunities for the newspapers to provide breaking news more timely. More than 200 eager elementary students in one Salt Lake school received new pairs of name-brand athletic shoes Thursday thanks to a $35,000 donation from Bridge Investment Group and a partnership with Shoes That Fit, a nonprofit based in California.

Teachers in Texas are paid, on average, $7,300 less per year than the national average, based on NEA’s latest survey. In all, eight charter schools will continue serving 11,000 students and receive about $60 million in public funds next year. Broadly, the report includes recommendations to change the funding formulas, to change accountability goals, and to provide funding for a pay-for-performance program.

Representative Eric Johnson laid out House Bill 65 that would require districts to report on out-of-school suspensions, and Representative Martinez laid out House Bill 109 to correct a drafting error from legislation passed last session to include charter schools in the prohibition from operating on Memorial Day.

Wall to wall career academies and a transition program for ninth graders have helped create an environment at this Texas high school in which rigorous, relevant education, inside and outside of the classroom, is the norm for all students. Baton Rouge Magnet again clocked in as the top public school in its area and came in at fifth statewide behind four New Orleans area schools and No. 377 in the nation.

After a lengthy debate, the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board on Thursday agreed to give Superintendent Warren Drake authority to lay off employees, but not before hearing it from some of those 6,000 individuals whose jobs are potentially in jeopardy.

Richard Peña Raymond, D-Laredo, has also proposed five amendments that would give classroom teachers, counselors, librarians and nurses across-the-board $3,000 to $5,000 raises, while Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC), the top Republican on the House education committee, expressed skepticism about restoring access to Pell Grants for incarcerated students.
It’s celebration time for thousands of high school and college students in the Pikes Peak region. The Texas State Teachers Association (TSTA) registered in support of these bills.
